One of our specialities is microscopic studies of composite materials. Thus, we carry out tests to determine stacking, cross-linking and the presence of all types of defects in different types of composite materials. Annually, we carry out more than 250 tests, including microscopic studies of these materials.

For this purpose, we have state-of-the-art inverted metallographic microscopes and stereo magnifiers. Using this equipment, we perform brightfield, darkfield, polarised light, Nomarski DIC, Lambda tint plate and stereomicroscopy tests. These devices also allow for motorised image capture. With them, we can obtain focused images with large depth of field and large images at high magnification. Thanks to our collaboration with the University of Cadiz, these studies can be extended using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS).

Our quality system includes five standardised procedures, which are approved by Airbus, Bombardier and Embraer. We perform the following microscopy tests on composite materials: Determination of pore content in FRP by microscopical examination, Macro-microscopic examination of FRP, Metallographic examination, Morphology of FRP laminates after DCM immersion, SEM-EDS and Honeycomg cell size.
