The technology SME receives a visit from the IAM in recognition of the Meridiana 2023 Awards granted by the Regional Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality.

Titania, the Cadiz-based company specialising in aerostructure materials and processes, received a visit yesterday, 24th May, from the Director of the Andalusian Institute for Women (IAM), Olga Carrión Mancebo, and the provincial coordinator, Blanca Merino de la Torre. Also in attendance was María del Carmen Lara Barea, Councillor for Social Services, Family and Equality on El Puerto de Santa María Town Council. The three professionals were given a tour of the company’s laboratories to learn first-hand about the different types of tests carried out, which cover all the materials used in the industry.

During the tour, the three women were accompanied by Dr Marta Botana Galvin, from the R&D+i department, and Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Chacón, Director of the company. Marta Botana presented the different lines of research that Titania is developing in the field of R&D+i, as well as the research projects in which it is currently participating as part of national and international consortiums financed with national Next Generation funds or by the European Union.

Titania has continued to grow in its commitment to knowledge and technological development, becoming a benchmark of excellence in the Andalusian business fabric by focusing its research activity on the field of materials science, attracting new international clients to the province of Cadiz to the tune of almost 2.5 million euros in the last year.

In terms of gender equality, the company’s equality policies have forced it to go against the gender stereotypes that are so characteristic of the industrial sector. Progress has been boosted by new recruitments made over the last year, 72% of whom are women, which means that today the workforce is made up of 50% female and 50% male technology specialists. These equality policies have led to the company receiving recognition for R&D+i Initiatives in the Meridiana 2023 Award granted by the Department of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Andalusian Regional Government in March. In its commitment to equality, Titania works both within the company and outside in collaboration with key social agents towards a fairer and more egalitarian society, supporting and promoting the organisation of meetings and conferences for women entrepreneurs and businesswomen of the Professional Network Association #MujeresImparables and participating in regional programmes such as UNIVERGEM for the retention of female talent.

The director and provincial coordinator of the IAM and the councillor of El Puerto Town Council were welcomed by the company’s staff, and they expressed their appreciation of the percentage of female researchers and technologists that make up the staff and the work-life balance measures that the company has in place to ensure the well-being of its team. They also stressed the importance of giving visibility to local companies such as Titania as an example of a world benchmark entity in the aeronautical sector, highlighting the company’s resources.

For her part, Marta Botana, shared her view of the importance of having local female references to promote the role of women in STEM careers and professions.
