On 7 and 8 June, the IntAIRCOAT 2023 conference was held at Seville’s NH Collection Hotel. This leading international event focused on aeronautical and aerospace coatings covered the most current topics related to the life cycle of aircraft coatings. Titania worked as a consultancy to support the event taking place in Andalusia with the aim of highlighting the existing business fabric of the Andalusian technology sector, additionally facilitating the industrial visit held at the facilities of the company Satys, in the 400M FAL.

In addition to its involvement providing consultancy to the organisation, Titania attended this professional meeting for the first time with a double objective: to present our experience in a research and development project and to promote our wide range of tests and technical capabilities for any type of material in the field of corrosion and surface technologies.

The presentation aimed to share the work developed in the framework of the ACTIVAL project which focuses on the search for alternatives to the hexavalent chromium coating currently used by the aviation industry. The alternative studied is based on the use of chrome-free e-coat coatings. The presentation was given by Pedro Astola, Head of R&D at Titania, together with Amaya García from the CIDETEC technology centre.

The ACTIVAL project involves a consortium coordinated by Titania and in which Spanish companies such as Mecanizados y Montajes Aeronáuticos (M&M), Chemplate and Innerspec Technologies are participating. The consortium is also supported by the CIDETEC technology centre and the University of Cadiz. The results obtained so far have led European Coatings magazine to publish an article in May on the purpose and progress of the ACTIVAL project. This is a milestone for the Cadiz-based company, as it is the first scientific article published as a result of an R&D project.

José Rodríguez, Titania’s Business Manager, was responsible for promoting the company’s catalogue of tests and technical capabilities in the networking space. Here, visibility was given to the wide range of products offered by Titania, applicable to any type of material. The company’s approvals and accreditations enable it to provide technological support in manufacturing processes to the aeronautical industry and to complement the Quality and R&D area. The aim of the meetings with other entities and professionals was to give greater visibility to the company’s capabilities in the field of corrosion and surface technologies.

IntAIRCOAT 2023 is an event where the latest innovations, techniques, materials and strategies related to aircraft coatings are discussed. The congress has a strong focus on increasing sustainability, looking at the use of new materials and alternatives to the use of REACH substances of concern.
