On the occasion of the IntAIRCOAT 2023 congress held in Seville on 7 and 8 June, the German magazine Besser Lackieren has published an article on the new development, still in the research phase, of alternatives to the currently used coating based on the use of hexavalent chromium for the aeronautical industry. This research is part of the ACTIVAL project promoted by a consortium in which the Cadiz-based company, Titania, holds the role of coordinator and in which other national companies such as Mecanizados y Montaje Aeronáuticos (M&M), Chemplate and Innerspec Technologies are participating.
The search for a suitable substitute for hexavalent chromium in aerospace surface treatment and coating chains has become a priority in the sector, due to the danger that exposure to products derived from this compound poses to workers. Such is the hazardous nature of these substances that they are regulated under REACH.
The Intaircoat 2023 conference was attended by 48 companies from the sector, of which just 18 were presentingadvances in aerospace coating technology. During the conference, Pedro Astola, Head of R&D at Titania, gave a talk presenting the work developed within the framework of the ACTIVAL project, which focuses on studying an alternative of chrome-free e-coat coatings.
This research, which studies colloidal anaphoric coatings, has aroused the interest of the industry, which is why the German magazine Besser Lackieren has published an article on this project.
Besser Lackieren is a specialist magazine for industrial surface coating and is published by Vincents Network GmbH & Co. KG and is the only publication in German-speaking countries that focuses on organic coating. The magazine’s publisher organises various conferences and congresses such as IntAIRCOAT, ECOLROMAT and BESSER LACKIEREN KONGRESS.
