“Handicrafts are something very relaxing for me, and to which I usually dedicate a good part of my free time”

Noelia Nieto, titania’s lab manager, grew up in a very creative environment. It was usual for both her and her two sisters to spend hours painting, as they saw their father does. He always combined this passion with his professional career, until an accident forced him to stop working and devote himself fully to painting. He learned in a self-taught way, and his mark is very present in Titania, too: he performed the original mural with portraits of titania’s team that covers one of the main meeting rooms of the company.
This creative vocation was deeply rooted in Noelia, but she acquired the modality of crafts. When she was a student, she developed skills to work with leather. Her learning, as his father did, was by herself: through Internet and imagination, she began to develop more and more manual skills in the production of items such as bags or wallets. “It was and it’s something very relaxing for me, and to which I usually dedicate a good part of my free time” she explains, confessing that she has a certain thorn stuck with the fact of not having developed a firm business project associated with this ability. In fact, seeing her bags and wallets, and also her fashion jewellery products, many times people asked her why she did not sell them. The main reason is the lack of time. Since many people are not aware of the investment of hours required by making any piece. A bag, for example, requires eight hours for three or four days, in the best case. Investment of hours and also of money, since leather is not a cheap product at all.

“It is nice to give things done by me to the people I love”

Of all the pieces she has manufactured, probably the one she feels most proud of is a specially worked bag she made to her sister, and on which she has always received many compliments. Most of her productions, in fact, have always been destined for gifts. “It’s a very nice thing to give things done by me to the people I love, not only leather goods, but also other things, like crochets, which I also do”, she says.
In titania, a part of her work, as Composite Materials lab manager, is closely related to manual labour, through panels manufacturing. “Although it has little to do in general, since my work is focused on planning, the truth – explains Noelia – is that in manufacturing, as when making a piece of leather, you have to be quite skilled”.

“I am very happy in titania, especially for the work environment. There is a lot of youth, and this is something you can notice”

In addition to being a great fan of leather goods, Noelia is a tireless traveller. She doesn’t mind traveling alone, and she always looks for very diverse, backpacking destinations. Thus, for example, together with Vanesa Aragón, Quality manager of titania, to which we also dedicate an article in this section, they made the Trans-Siberian railway. Last January she went to Peru, and has in mind, for a next trip, to visit Mozambique, where she has a good friend. Her work does not allow as free time as she would like, even so she feels lucky for being part of a company like this. “I am very happy in titania, especially for the work environment. There is a lot of youth, and this is something you can notice”. She also feels fortunate to have been able to stay in Cadiz, after studied Chemical Engineering at the UCA: “Of all my friends, only a few could stay here”, she concludes.
